Ever since the man of the hour, or possibly the century, emptied a bucket of imperial vanity, vile lies, and bombastic threats over the heads of the UN delegates, the commentariat has been in an uproar, trying with all their might to explain why Trump would make statements such as this; ‘North Korea threatens the entire world with unthinkable loss of life, and ‘The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea. Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime.’ Yes, the ‘depraved’ Kim Jong Un is going to pay the price, which apparently is the previously unthinkable bombing of N Korea into the stone age. But Trump wasn’t done: next came an attack on Iran: ‘The Iranian government masks a corrupt dictatorship behind the false guise of a democracy. It has turned a wealthy country with a rich history and culture into an economically depleted rogue state whose chief exports are violence, bloodshed, and chaos.’ This is personal, Iran signed a nuclear deal with Obama, Trump’s arch enemy, and thus, that deal and the country itself, has to be demolished. And after that, he lit into Venezuela, which isn’t acting the way the US wants, either.
If all this is confusing, or alarming, it’s actually nothing new. Ever since he rose like an evil spirit from the American swamp of democratic corruption, Trump has constantly engaged in alarmist, contradictory and ‘fake news’ statements. For those in the know, he is engaging in ‘projection’, a psychological manoeuvre in which you accuse your enemies of the very thing you, yourself, are famous for doing. I don’t believe he is aware of the subtleties of this particular explanation, but he is very much in charge of the overall objective. That objective is simple: keep everybody on edge, confused, and alarmed. Done and done; you have to hand it to the guy; he’s succeeding brilliantly.
As always, the deeper question here is WHY? Why would the most powerful nation on earth, armed with weapons that can annihilate several earths in the blink of an eye, feel ‘threatened’ by a country that can barely feed its people? According to none other than Trump’s very own ‘Mad Dog Mattis’, the old general and Trump’s chief of staff, N Korea couldn’t deliver a real H-bomb anywhere, anytime soon. And he ought to know.
Aw, come on. It’s all a show, one designed to discombobulate you so that Herr Trump can get away with starting WW3. WHY, again. Because the people are restless, they are not actually buying what he’s selling, so goddamn it, a war will be enough of a distraction to keep them all in line and then some. And besides, war mongers get ‘tremendous’ respect in the good old USA. It’s an old trick taken from an ancient playbook that all aspiring tyrants have used since time immemorial. You have to start with telling Big Lies and tell them often. As Hitler succinctly put it, tell the Big Lie often enough, and eventually, they will believe you. And once you’ve got them in that space, you can do what you want. Naomi Klein calls it ‘Disaster Capitalism’, and we ought to take her more seriously than we apparently do. Waging futile wars is the ultimate goal of DC, after all.
Meanwhile, there’s not going to be a revolution, even a little one, in the USA if Herr Trump has anything to do with, no matter how dire things get, no matter how many Climate Change disasters ruin the American Dream. Actually, the CC catastrophes are a welcome diversion; they help to keep everyone frightened and feeling insecure. That’s always a wonderful thing for aspiring tyrants, and that is the real reason why Trump professes to disbelieve in Climate Change. He doesn’t. He just won’t acknowledge it because if he did, he might have to do something about it. Better to deny, lie, deny and lie some more. CC fits his agenda and those of his backers perfectly.
This is the billionaire’s club consisting of Robert Mercer, Peter Thiel et al, who have their hands on the big data companies that own the most powerful weapon ever devised to control everyone: individualized data gathering that allows them to manipulate people without them even being aware of it. They know everything about us, about you and me, what we do, what we believe, what we own, where we live and travel. Such power has never existed before, and I do not believe it is a coincidence that the people who wield this power are backing the best showman the US has ever spawned. Google and Facebook are very friendly with the State Department, too, and that fact alone should give everyone pause.
Make no mistake: all this bellicose braying is a brilliant, deliberate strategy with a big endgame. And we should have guessed by now what it is. With that travesty of a speech, Trump has shown his hand, but alas, very few people seem to be getting the message.
